Abstract:
In 1987,based on blood pressure cross section survey of 4916 school children aged 6~15 years,199 pupils with their systolic blood pressure equal or greater than percentiles 95 (SBP≥P\-\95\) on age and sex were chosen as the higher blood pressure group and matched age sex with SBP≤P\-\50\ as the controls. For both groups, the left ventricular mass(LVM) was calculated according to the M mode echocardiographic estimations and their BP was followed up in 1989 and 1992,respectively.The results showed that:(1)the LVM in children with SBP≥P\-\95\ during all the follow up was greater than that in those with SBP≤P\-\50\;(2)the correlation of LVM with SBP was intensified with the time shift;(3)for the boys,if their LVM was above 95% CI,the SBP would be ≥P\-\90\ in 60% of them after 5 years, but only 29.5% for the girls. We believe that LVM,especially in boys has played a role in prediction of the future blood pressure.
