Abstract:
Concentration of cytosolic free Ca\+\2+\i was elevated and level of cAMP declined progressively in platelets in the course of atherosclerosis from the phase of minute focal lesion, fatty streaks, fibro lipid plaque to fibroatheromatous plaque in cholesterol fed rabbits.Ca\+\2+\i concentration negatively correlated with the level of cAMP (r=-0.667,P<0.001).Increase in Ca\+\2+\i may be associated with decreased level of cAMP by a negative feedback. The results indicate that the interaction of endothelial injury, platelet activation and hypercholesterolemia plays an important role in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis in cholesterol fed rabbits.
