Abstract:
Twenty four elderly patients with phase Ⅱ hypertension received nifedipine over 4 years, the dose being from 10 mg to 30 mg tid. Before receiving nifedipine, all the patients were demonstrated to have left ventricular hypertrophy by UCG.After 2 years′treatment of nifedipine, there was a significant decrease in SBP,DBP,LVM,LVMI,FS% and EFV.After 4 years of nifedipine treatment,SBP and DBP reduced continuously, while LVM and LVMI,compared with that of pre treatment, showed no significant difference, though increased somewhat,This suggests that the left ventricular hypertrophy is kept at the pretreatment level for 4 years of nifedipine treatment and the left ventricular systolic and diastolic function has further improved.
