Abstract:
This study was designed to observe the effects of mackeral and its concentrated oil diet on 40 older patients with mild essential hypertension. It was found that the blood pressure was lowered in 90. 19% patients by dietary fish oil,88. 88% patients by dietary mackeral. There was no significant difference in blood pressure-lowering effect between these two groups (P > 0. 05 ). The serum triglyceride was decreased significantly after 1 month mackeral diet (P<0. 01 ) or its oil diet (P<0. 05). The results showed that mackeral or its rich eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA)oil could lower the blood pressure in older patients with mild hyperten sion.
