Abstract: Thirty elderly patients with essential hypertension （EH） were treated with Amlodipine for 4 weeks. The results showed that rnarkedly effective rate and total effectiverate were 40% and 96. 6%, respectively in stage Ⅰ or Ⅱ EH.Amlodipine have no effect on the plasma contents of ANP. ETand CA. AI and A Ⅱ. No severe side effects were found. Amlodipine may be used as one of the first choice drug in treatment of stage Ⅰ and Ⅱ EH, especially in elderly cases
