Abstract:
Twenty-seven patients with renal artery fibtromuscular dysplasia(FMD) were investiged, age 25±7 years(ranging from 2 months to 12 years).Hypertension was persistent elevated in 24 patients(88.9%).Significant blood pressure fluctuation was seen in 3 cases (11.1%). 7 patients had a bruit in the abdomen,50% patients with hypokalemia,2 cases with mild cardiomegaly and 2 cases with mild impairment of renal function. All patients had normal angiography in the thoracic aorta and abdominal aorta. The lesion involved only the right renal artery in 55.6%,and involved both the right and left renal arteies in 14.8%.The lesion was often located in the middle or distal part of the renal artery.9 patients showed a string-of-beads stenosis. These findings suggested that FMD seems to be a common cause of renovascular hypertension(RVH)in youing women, with the right renal artery more being commonly involved.Cardiomegaly and impaired renal function were rare in FMD.
