Abstract:
The patterns of left ventricle(LV)in 544 patients(male 336) with hypertension and 204 matched normotensive subjects(male 106) were studied by echocardiography.Six different patterns of LV hypertrophy were identified according to relative wall thickness and LV mass index and anterior ventricular septum(or basal)thickness.Among hypertensive patients, normal LV was 52% in male,42% in female, whereas eccentric hypertrophy was 16%,25% in male and female respectively, the sexual difference was significant(P<0.001).Concentric remodeling was 10%,9%,concentric hypertrophy was 17%,8%.Asymmetric septal hypertrophy and anterior ventricular septum hasal hypertrophy was 7% and 9%.This study showed that the patterns of LVH were relatedto age, sex, illness duration and systolic blood pressure, but the formation of the patterns of LVH might be depended upon cardic intrinsic factors. The concentric and eccentric hypertrophy might be two distinct entities.
