Abstract: Aim\ To investigate the longterm therapeutic effect of enalapril on hypertensive patients with complications.\ Methods\ One hundred and thirty four patients with essential hypertension in stage Ⅱ were treated with enalapril.\ The treatment lasted for mean 34±05 years.\ Results\ Long term treatment with enalapril not only decreased blood pressure to the satisfactory level,but also improved left ventricular hypertrophy, decreased albumimuria（P＜005）,lowered the occurance of strokes（P＜0001）, and reversed hypertensive retinopathy（P＜001）.\ Conclusion\ The targetorgans damaged can be effectively improved with long term treatment of enalaqril.
