Abstract:
Objective To investigate the relationship between G protein β 3 subunit gene polymorphism and essential hypertension in a Chinese population. Methods Polymerase chain reaction combined with restriction enzyme digestion was used to detect the polymorphism of G protein β 3 subunit gene in 146 hypertensive patients and 79 normotensive controls. Their body mass index (BMI) was also measured. Serum total cholesterol (Tch), triglyceride(TG), fasting serum glucose(Glu)and creatinine (Cr) were determined in 128 hypertensive patients. Left ventricular mass (LVMI) was assessed by echocardiographic method in 103 hypertensive patients. Results There were no significant differences of the β 3 subunit polymorphism genotypes and alleles between 146 hypertensive patients (CC24.7%?CT69.2%?TT6.2%; C59.2%?T40 8%) and 79 normotensive controls(CC22.8%?CT63.3%?TT13.9%; C54.4%?T45.6%). The LVMI, BMI, serum total cholesterol and triglyceride levels did not differ significantly between CC and CT+TT genotypes in hypertensive patients. Conclusion The C825T polymorphism of G protein β 3 subunit gene was not associated with EH in Chinese. There was no significant association between the 825 T allele and LVH, BMI,serum total cholesterol or triglyceride levels in hypertensive patients.
