Abstract:
Objective To investigate the blood pressure(BP) and quality of life in the centenarians lived in Jinan. Methods Survey and questionaires were carried out on 109 centenarians (96 women,13 men),average (101.9±2.0) years old. Their living quality, health status, medical histories and activities of daily living (ADL) were studied. BP was measured in 102 subjects. Results 29.4% subjects were in apparently good health without serious clinical diseases,19.3% had cardio-cerebrovascular disease with 11% stroke; means of BP(SBP/DBP/PP)in 102 subjects were (151.8±32.5)/(79.1±14.5)/(72.8±26.4)mmHg,67.6% were dignosed as hypertension based on contemporary criteria(≥140/90 mmHg); SBP≥180 mmHg was found in twenty-two subjects(22/102,21.5%),BP≥200 mmHg in 8 (7.8%). Analysis results showed that the ADL scores in SBP ≥120 mmHg or DBP ≥80 mmHg centenarians were significantly better than those in SBP 100-119 mmHg or DBP 70-79 mmHg (P<0.01 or P<0.05). Conclusion In oldest old people, higher BP might be beneficial for their health. The "normal BP" values and diagnostic criteria for hypertension in various cohort of aged people need revised in accordeance with patients’ age.
