Abstract:
Objective To investigate the prevalence, awareness, treatment, and control rate of hypertension, as well as the use of antihypertensive drugs in residents aged 35-75 years in Henan province. Methods Using convenient sampling, questionnaire survey and physical examination were conducted among adult residents aged 35-75 years in eight cities/prefectures from 2015 to 2018. Results A total of 119 585 residents in Henan Province, aged(55.5±9.7) years, were investigated, of whom 61.0% were females. The prevalence, awareness, treatment, and control rate of hypertension were 43.1%, 44.1%, 33.2% and 11.2% respectively. Among the antihypertensive drugs taken by all patients, calcium channel blockers accounted for the largest proportion(35.2%). The awareness, treatment and control rate of hypertension were higher in patients with advanced age, high education level, urban or past illness such as diabetes, myocardial infarction and stroke. But these indices were lower in male, farmer and alcohol drinking subjects. Conclusions The prevalence of hypertension is high but the awareness, treatment, and control rate are low among adult residents in Henan province. Further efforts are needed to enhance the system of hypertension prevention and control management system.
