The progress and challenges in the application of smart wearable devices in hypertension management

Abstract: Hypertension, as the leading risk factor for cardiovascular diseases globally, requires effective management to reduce the risk of cardiovascular events. Traditional blood pressure monitoring methods are limited by their intermittent nature and low compliance, whereas smart wearable devices, with advantages such as real-time continuous monitoring, data visualization, and remote interaction, are emerging as novel tools for hypertension management. Based on a literature review, this paper systematically examines the progress and challenges in the application of smart wearable devices in hypertension management. Research indicates that these devices demonstrate great potential in early hypertension screening, fluctuation detection, self-management, and remote intervention, with existing studies confirming their value in short-term blood pressure control and risk stratification. However, challenges remain in terms of data accuracy, standardized validation, user compliance, and the digital divide. Leveraging technological innovation, policy support, regulatory improvements, evidence accumulation, and multidisciplinary collaboration will be essential to fully realize the potential of these devices and provide new solutions for global hypertension prevention and control.
