Effects of ACEI Therapy on Insulin Resistance in Patients with Essential Hypertension

  • ACEI (captopril, enalapril and lisinopril ) were administered with dosages as 12. 5 37. 5 mg/d. 5 15 mg/d and 10~30 mg/d,respectively for 4 weeks in 30 patients with essential hypertension. The results showed that the blood pressure decreased from 171/106 mmHg to 143/88 mmHg (P<0. 001 ). The blood insulin level and the blood insulin/glucose ratio during glucose loading were significantly reduced, suggesting that ACEI improves the insulin-resistance in patients with essential hypertension.
