The Effect of Irbesartan and Prostaglandin E1 Combination Treatment on Early Renal Damage in Patients with Essential Hypertension

  • Objective To study the the effect of irbesartan and prostaglandin E 1 combination treatment on early renal damage in patients in essential hypertension. Methods Forty three patients with early renal damage in essential hypertension were divided into treatment group(n22) and control group(n21). Irbesartan was given 150 mg/d in two groups. After 60 d, prostaglandin E 1 was infused intravenously at 100 μg/d in treatment group for 15 d, while patients in control group continued to receive irbesartan alone. The serum creatinine, urine creatinine, endogenous creatinine (CCr), total 24 h urinary protein(TUP), urine microalbumin(MCA), β 2 microgloblin(β 2 MG), and N-acetyl-beta-glucosaminidase(NAG) were examined before and after 60, 75 d treatment in two groups. Results UTP, MCA, β 2 MG were decreased and CCr increased in both groups after 60, 75 d of treatment(P<0.05). β 2 MG and NAG were decreased more profoundly in treatment group than that in control group(P<0.05). Conclusion The protective effect of irbesartan and prostaglandin E 1 combination on essential hypertension with early renal damage is superior to those of irbesartan alone.
