Abstract
Objective To describe the prevalence, awareness, treatment, and control of hypertension in residents aged 18 years and older in Hebei province from 2013 to 2018. Methods Utilizing a multi-stage stratified cluster sampling method, permanent residents aged 18 years and older in Hebei province were selected as subjects during October to December in 2013 and 2018, respectively. The trends of prevalence, awareness, treatment and control of hypertension were analyzed. Results A total of 7 734 adults in 2013 and 7 750 adults in 2018 were included in the analysis. Mean systolic and diastolic blood pressure(BP) increased from(135.7±20.9) to(140.1±21.1) mm Hg(t=-12.95, P<0.01), and(80.8±11.3) to(81.2±11.3) mm Hg(t=-2.72,P<0.01), respectively. The prevalence of hypertension increased from 34.4% to 37.4%(χ~2=115.38, P<0.01). While awareness rate decreased from 45.0% to 39.9%(χ~2=63.87, P<0.01), the treatment rate decreased from 35.4% to 35.3%(χ~2=23.07,P<0.01) and control rate decreased from 8.5% to 6.5%(χ~2=8.55, P<0.01). Conclusion The prevalence of hypertension presents an upward trend from 2013 to 2018, while awareness, treatment and BP control rates are still low in adult residents in Hebei province.
