Interpretation of clinical practice consensus statement 2025: management of hyperuricemia and gout in adolescents

  • This article interprets the newly published paper Clinical Practice Consensus Statement 2025: Management of Hyperuricemia and Gout in Adolescents by Chinese Society of Endocrinology. The core statements of the consensus include: the diagnostic criteria for hyperuricemia and gout in adolescents adopt adult standards; lifestyle intervention serves as the foundation, and the initiation of urate-lowering therapy is determined based on stratified criteria considering serum uric acid levels, the presence of gout, or metabolic abnormalities; and it outlines the treatment principles for acute gout attacks in adolescents. Furthermore, it also extends to summarize the integrated management of hyperuricemia/gout comorbid with hypertension in adolescents, proposing strategies for screening, stratified intervention, antihypertensive drug selection, and multidisciplinary collaboration.
